May 14th

As the school year draws to a close, I would like to inform you of several end-of-year events and reflect on my tenure at Patrick Henry.

I would like to invite our community to attend the high school awards program on Tuesday, May 15th at 9 a.m. in the high school gymnasium.  Students will be honored for their academic successes from this past school year, and many of the seniors will be presented with a variety of scholarships.  District residents and organizations are responsible for providing local scholarships that our students receive.  Everyone who contributes to these scholarships is greatly appreciated!

The last day of school will be Thursday, May 24th.  I would like to remind our parents that we will have a 2-hour early dismissal on this last day of school.  All buildings will release at 12:58 p.m.  For those parents whose children do not ride the bus, please make arrangements to have your children picked up promptly as our teachers will be in end-of-year meetings after the students are released.

I would like to encourage everyone to attend our high school graduation that will take place on Sunday, May 27th in the high school gymnasium at 2:00 p.m.  There will be plenty of seating, so I would encourage everyone to come and show your support for our graduates.

As we look ahead to the next school year, families that are currently attending Patrick Henry through Open Enrollment have until June 15th to return their application for next school year.  Anyone new interested in having their children attend our school under Open Enrollment should complete the application form on our website and submit it to the Superintendent’s Office no later than July 31st.

I am retiring in July after thirty-four years in education, the last twenty-two being at Patrick Henry.  I have thoroughly enjoyed living and working in the PH school district.  I am grateful to all the board members I have worked with for allowing me to have the opportunity to serve our school system in three different administrative capacities.  I have been blessed to work with outstanding employees, and have especially enjoyed the working relationship with the principals and supervisors.  Our district has changed greatly over the past two decades, and I am proud to have been able to be a part of that change in one capacity or another.  As I told our employees in my email announcing my resignation, it has been an honor and a privilege to work in the Patrick Henry School District.

In closing, I would like to congratulate the seniors and praise all the parents, our employees, and everyone else that is involved with our students.  It has been a successful and productive school year.  Enjoy your summer!
